Oakaloosa takes over Historic Fort Wayne next Saturday. Oakaloosa is a new music festival in Detroit where you’ll be able to hear a little bit of everything and support a better cause. Beyond fun and revelry, Oakaloosa will raise much needed money for the restoration of Fort Wayne. Many of the bands are up and coming acts straight out of Detroit, with national acts Bone Thugs & Harmony and Girl Talk a headlining the fest. Tickets will be $45.

“The Oakaloosa Music Festival is all about celebrating the great talent we have here in Detroit, spotlighting our city’s culture and history, while also giving back to the community in ways that will help create a better future for the youth of Detroit,” said Adam Bleznak, Program Director for Oakaloosa.

We got in touch with Adrian Pittman, spokesperson for the festival, who graciously answered some of our questions about the fest:

Where did the idea having a philanthropic music festival hatch from? How long has it taken to come to fruition?

The festival planning started more than a year ago. Community philanthropy was the main focus from the beginning. Adam Bleznak and the board of the Detroit Sports Zone founded the festival to raise funds for their organization’s youth programming, were quick to identify compatible needs among other non-profits and eager to extend the focus of the festival to include the Historic Fort Wayne Coalition, Detroit Recreation Department and Defeat the Label into this year’s fundraising program.
